Hello Darren, thank you very much for sparing your time with us. I’m sure our readers are interested to learn about your experience with Inmotion Hosting. Without further delay, can you please briefly introduce yourself?
First of all, thank you Desmond for inviting me to this interview. It’s my pleasure to be here.
Hi everyone, my name is Darren. I’ve been a Webmaster for some years. I run multiple websites and currently am hosted with 2 hosting companies. Back in October 2009, I came across Inmotion and decided to give it a try. So there I went to subscribe the Power Plan by Inmotion. It’s 17 months later now. I consider this 17-month an experience to share with you all here. I hope this interview does offer you something.
Let’s start with an interesting question. Are you a PC or Mac? IE, Safari or Firefox?
Haha. I am a Mac and I use Firefox.
Can you briefly tell us what do you do with Inmotion Hosting?
I host 2 websites in Inmotion Hosting. One is a foreclosure-listing site and the other one is webmastering related site. My foreclosure-listing site is a static HTML site with a minimum level of PHP used; while my second site is a WordPress blog. I work as an affiliate in both websites trying to make a living of it.
Can I ask what make you choose Inmotion Hosting 17 months ago?
Interesting question. I will need to recall my memory now.
As mentioned above, I use Inmotion Hosting as my business host. Therefore 2 things came into my considereation:- 1) business cost and 2) quality. I wanted to achieve a balance in these 2 things.
I wanted a cPanel hosting for it’s an established control panel in my opinion. Also I needed the hosting to be stable and have excellent uptime. It has to be at least 99.9%. Speed was my concern too. I do not want my websites to have low speed. The Max Speed Zone of Inmotion Hosting does get my attention. With this feature I can choose the location of my data center to better serve my visitors. So I’d eventually decided to try out Inmotion Hosting. In short, I chose Inmotion Hosting for quality. And I think I’ve made the right move.
How was the ordering process?
Desmond, it was 17 months ago I can barely remember about it! What I can tell is that I went through the online ordering process. I chose my datacenters. And in a short while my account is usable. Oh yes, I did receive a call from Inmotion Hosting to confirm my order and to activate my account.
Inmotion Hosting offers unlimited storage and bandwidth. Is it really unlimited? Have you by any chance faced any issue with it?
According to the hosting features, I can host up to 6 websites. However I have only 2 websites hosted. Therefore I don’t think I have utilized the hosting account enough to test their limit. As far as I concern, I don’t face any problem with the storage and bandwidth. And I don’t bother to care about the storage. I host whatever needed and so far everything is fine.
However, I was contacted once by the technical support saying that my second site (WordPress blog) was consuming too much of resources (not sure Bandwidth or CPU). That was the time when my WordPress site started to have around 110 visitors per day. The issue was eventually solved with me installing a plugin named WP Super Cache. I’m not sure it’s because of the design of my website or the WordPress software. I didn’t bother much as the issue was solved. It never happen again even my traffic has reached 2x of the traffic back then. By the way for your information, the support who contacted me deserve my credit. He was nice and informative. In fact he was the one who suggested the solutions.
Inmotion Hosting runs on cPanel version 11. Do you find it user-friendly?
I find it simply handy. I can easily complete my task in a few clicks. Guess this is what user-friendly means? Instructions are clear too. Fantastico is something worth mentioning in cPanel. I’ve installed WordPress in just 1 click. That’s real easy. Besides WordPress there are many more pre-installed Software like Joomla and Drupal. Yet to try it out but I’m pretty sure the 1-step instruction will guide me there.
Do you use email as a mode of communication? As shown in the hosting features, Inmotion claims to have faster email with their Max Speed Zone. How do you find this?
Yes I host my business email with them. I’ve been using email heavily to handle the communications with my partners and clients. I’ve also synchronized my email account with my HTC Desire so that I can read my mail anywhere. FYI, I use IMAP on my HTC.
As regarded to the Max Speed Zone, honestly I have no idea if it’s faster or not. I guess I’m not technical enough to sense the speed. What I can say is that my email communication is smooth enough all this while. I have not received any complaints on missing or late emails from my contacts. I would say it’s very stable.
How’s the uptime performance of Inmotion Hosting so far?
Superb! There is really nothing much to say about this. There’re months they achieved 100% uptime while others 99.98 – 99.99%. I can tell because I do track my website’s uptime with the free plan by siteuptime.com.
After 17 months what are the disadvantages you see in Inmotion Hosting? Do you ever think of switching host?
Honestly the answer depends on how you use the hosting. For my case (hosting a static HTML site and a WordPress blog), I did not come across any disadvantages in Inmotion Hosting. I send email to the support every time I face an issue and in no time it will be solved. I really couldn’t think of anything bad on them. The only one (if it’s even considered as one) is their pricing. I’ve just renewed my plan a while ago and I’m renewing it for 2 years straight at $7.95/ month. It is reasonable but it would be nice to have discount for loyal customers. :)
Will I think of switching? No way. Well, let’s put it this way. I will switch if the host gets unreliable with a lot of downtime, which is something I pray hard to avoid. Switching is definitely not a fun thing to do. I hope they can keep up the effort and maintain the quality. For the time being, Inmotion Hosting is up to my expectation.
Last but not least, do you have any advice for people who are looking for a hosting plan?
Look no further, go with Inmotion Hosting! :)
Anyway, it’s all back to your needs. What are you going to do with the hosting? In my opinion Inmotion Hostig is not a budget host. You get what you pay after all. Therefore if a little lack in quality doesn’t matter so much to you, I suggest you to look at some other less pricey hosts. Chances are they are equally good.
Thank you very much for your time, Darren! I’m sure the interview will be beneficial to the readers.
Thank you too.
